A few years ago now we covered an excellent song by the Melbourne-via-Perth singer Zoe A’dore when she did a song called Bury It which we adored and instantly noticed a songwriting talent within.
Zoe’s had a while between us talking about her music – in that time she’s moved to the other side of the country, made a couple of other songs including one that got a sync with an ABC show – and established herself as an important songwriting voice.
Innocent is a really ideal pop song – very Scandi writing, an Icona Pop-esque delivery, constantly evolving production by Kyran Daniel and an absolute lasting impact.
Zoe says it’s essentially a song made for the self-care moments of a breakup.
“I wanted to write a song in a playful way that allowed you to have that Bridget Jones Diary moment. That moment where you’re drowning your sorrows with wine and singing Celine Dion through your newspaper because you’re sad. I think it’s healthy to go through the growing pains rather than suppressing them and pretending like you’re made of stone.”
We love picking it back up with an artist with an undeniable talent, and we’re keen to see what happens for Zoe in 2020. For now – get this shit on your playlists and get this woman writing with you.
