MAÏKEE’s ‘So Tonight We’ll Dance’ Is Like An Illegitimate Disco Lovechild Of MIKA, LANY & Perfume Genius

Here’s a totally joyous, well-executed pop song from the Brisbane artist MAÏKEE, who is aiming to make music that’s not too serious and encourages people to be themselves.

It’s got a smart and 80s flair – one that avoids the tackiness many 80s-inspired pop songs end up with, his voice is somewhere between a MIKA and a Paul Jason Klein from LANY and the whole song is a joy.

The video for So Tonight We’ll Dance was filmed at Brisbane’s iconic The Beat Nightclub, where I once saw Betty Who perform at 1 o clock in the morning. She did three songs and I could smell lots of amyl nitrite.
