The infatuation, self-doubt, unsureness and masking – all that with getting blind at parties – is chronicled to a highly relatable tee by this excellent London-based newcomer called Joe Nix on his single Yikes.
I’m a sucker for anything piano-led but this feels effortless. It’s as breezy as it is complex and as warm as it is melancholic.
The confidence and resilience audible in his voice is shaped by the constant movement of his early days – from the West Midlands to Paraguay and then a stint resetting himself in West Yorkshire and now, a life in London.
Yikes is a really exciting confessional from an artist we’re so psyched to hear more from.
