Usually I’d be quite weary of someone named Holiday but when you combine it with the last name Sidewinder, it’s quite nice to say, really. Holiday Sidewinder used to sing for Bridezilla, a Sydney based atmo-pop thing which broke up at the end of 2012. She moved to London and started doing her own solo thing and we’re glad she did that.
AMAZING SIDEBAR: Sia used to babysit her.

At the start of the year she chucked a Happy New Year on Facebook. “Happy New Year Y’all. I’m hoping to make a record in 2014 that will increase the national birth rate by at least 1%, have security guards whistling to themselves in a quiet hour and factory workers humming in the line. I hope all of the singles become wedding songs and karaoke classics. I hope it will be a musical landscape upon which to dwell in thought and prayer. I hope you dance. I hope you well up and then beam with joy. But hey, I don’t ask for much. Love, Lust & Laughter until then. Anon. x x x”
So that’s all very nice. The first glimpse we’ve had from this record she wants to bring out is Carousel, it’s peculiar, sounds like she looks and is above all, extremely good pop. She reckons she wants to sound like “a popstar from a different era,” one containing Barry White, Dolly Parton and Liberace. She sounds like absolutely none of them, but she does sound like Holiday Sidewinder and we like her a lot. She even ‘keeps to her roots’ using an Australian number plate with the word ‘OUTBACK’ on her single cover. Expect quite big things.
The song’s actually locked to our UK best buds Popjustice so if you click the Soundcloud player below you’ll be ~transported~ there.
